Glenda Hammond

Glenda Hammond studied Graphic Design at Canterbury College of Art. She worked as a graphic designer for a short while before studying at Canterbury Christchurch University. She later gained a BA Hons at the University of Kent in Art and Education. Etching is a medium that Glenda loves to use, though she also paints in oils and acrylics. She uses detailed drawing to focus and give depth to the subject using copper and zinc plates. Glenda etches the drawn lines before applying aquatint to give a variety of tones. She prints in black and white, and with coloured inks, also hand colouring some prints. Nature has always been important to her and she draws much inspiration from the countryside. Glenda tries to convey the mystery and inspiration of Nature in her etchings as well as her paintings. She also tries to find scenes that represent a bygone age unaffected by our age of redevelopment and change in the hope that they not only capture the scene for posterity but give a sense of artistic expression. Glenda hopes to record and recreate images that speak clearly and simply of the subject, be it of rural England, nature, the English and Italian landscape or coastal scenes. She also hopes that her prints transmit real feeling, charm and the spirit of the subject.
