Michal Lukasiewicz

Michal Lukasiewicz portrays his subjects with the tenderness and warm sensuality of the High Renaissance, combined with the vibrancy of Pop art in his use of bright colours. Working primarily in acrylic on a gesso ground, his works are at times almost entirely monochrome. Michal is also well known for his far more colourful paintings adorned with patches and shades of off-white, and a kaleidoscope of other colours. The off-white in his paintings comes entirely from his use of gesso. He works with his canvas on the wall or floor. This gives him a firm surface to rub through the thin layers of acrylic to the white gesso beneath. ‘My paintings are of the human form, the soft tenderness that it can transfer to the viewer; never the anger of the world but the peace and harmony that humans are capable of. I have been influenced by living in Belgium and by to show the placid side of my subject by using light, the reflection of light and the shadows. This emphasises the subject’s form and curves. I try to achieve the smoothness of skin and the body. Consequently, no brush strokes are visible to the viewer.’
