A former pharmacist, around 1998 I took up carpentry and in 2010 discovered woodturning. I had always viewed working with wood on a lathe as an adjunct to my interest in carpentry; however, when a friend gave me a small lathe some years ago, I quickly realised that working within this field is every bit as varied as it is addictive! Within a short time I became aware that this was what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. One of my long term aims is to expand the paradigm in which wood as art is seen; with this in mind, I take care to keep the style of my work purposefully varied. One never knows where a design avenue will lead, and I relish the opportunities as well as the serious challenges to design and quality that a broad portfolio presents. I use both exotic and sustainably sourced temperate indigenous hardwoods. I always try to use Kentish wood but where I can see a piece needs an exotic wood trim (e.g. foot or finial) I will make no apology for its use - I will grind whatever grist the mill requires to bring my art as close to perfection as I am able to! In 2014 following a rigorous independent peer review process, I was honoured to be accepted on to the Register of Professional Turners.
