Janet is a self-taught artist who became interested in art when she moved to London after finishing school and began visiting art galleries. She has always had a creative streak, designing and making crafts, quilting and patch-working, and a number of years ago she began to put some of her ideas into paintings. Janet mainly works in acrylic, layering the paint to create textures and a strong depth of colour. She prefers using bright colours, but recently she has been experimenting with shades of blue and tones creating harbour and seaside paintings. Her painting style can be described as loosely abstract, semi-representational. Using photographs from her travels as starting points for her seaside and harbour paintings, she also likes to collect unusual decorative jugs and vases which she then uses, along with flowers from her garden, as inspiration for her still-life paintings.
