Diana McKinnon

I am a textile artist, based in South East London. I use a technique of free machine embroidery and layered fabrics to create scenic and abstract designs. I originally trained and worked as a primary school teacher, specialising in Art. I worked in a variety of primary schools for about 20 years, and for six years I set up and ran and 'Artist in Residence' project for a London based charity. While raising a family and teaching, I attended an adult education course in ceramics and achieved City and Guilds Part 1 in 1990. I followed this with a creative embroidery course in City and Guilds Part 1 and 2. My current work mainly focuses on the English countryside in which I depict scenes such as bluebell woods, poppy fields and autumnal scenes. These require more intricate layering of different fabrics, overlaid with free machine embroidery, to portray both light and colour and texture.
